Not sure where to start? Check out our list of lake house must haves.

Kitchen Essentials

A fully stocked lake house kitchen will make your vacations easygoing and help you feel right at home. Every household has their own additions to a list of kitchen essentials, but some of the basics include:

  • Pots and pans
  • Cooking utensils
  • Glass and plastic dishes
  • Utensils
  • Coffee pot and favorite mugs
  • Cooking oil
  • Salt, pepper, and seasonings
  • Hot pads
  • Paper towels and napkins

  • Dish drying rack
  • Grilling utensils
  • First Aid kit

Entertainment

Getting the most out of your lake house means always having some entertainment on hand. Of course the lake is always there for a great time, but don't forget to stock your house with some indoor and backyard fun, too.

Some of our favorite entertainment includes:

  • Board games and decks of cards
  • Lawn games like croquet or cornhole
  • TV with streaming services
  • Ping pong, foozball, or a pool table
  • Kids' toys, if you have little ones in the family

Outdoor Dining Essentials

If your lake house has a nice deck, patio, or other outdoor space, maximize the property by equipping it for outdoor dining. Get started with this list:

  • Grill or smoker (or both!)
  • Outdoor picnic table with umbrella
  • Mesh covers to keep bugs away from food
  • Fire pit and sticks for s'mores or hot dogs
  • Outdoor bar cart or ice chest

Accessories for the Dock

Many waterfront properties in Texas include a private dock. If yours does, don't forget to spruce it up and stock it with everything you need for a good time, including:

  • Solar powered lanterns
  • Umbrellas for shade
  • Lounge chairs or hammocks

Extra for Guests

One of the best parts of owning a lake house is being able to invite friends or family along. To make this as easy as possible, consider outfitting your lake house to be ready for extra people at a moment's notice by stocking it with:

  • Trundle beds, bunk beds, or roll-away away beds
  • Extra bedding, pillows, and bath towels
  • More dishes than you think you need
  • Sound machines
  • Fans
  • Travel size toiletries such as shampoo, toothpaste, and toothbrushes
  • Extra toilet paper
  • Extra lake towels and sunscreen
  • Folding tables and chairs

Miscellaneous

There are few more essentials that are worth leaving at the lake house. To make your life easier, stock the house with:

  • Weed wacker and lawn mower (unless you have professional lawn care hired for the summer)
  • Bug spray
  • Flashlights
  • Extra life vests and lake floats
  • Vacuum, mop, and other cleaning supplies (even if you have a housekeeping service, you will be glad to have these on hand)
  • Laundry essentials like detergent, baskets, and hangers
